Hyeres, Scheduled death of Kitesurf activity ?
With much grief and despair,Kitesurf fans in Hyeres just found out that the sport they love has been put on death row.
The City Hall announced without any consultation that the "Merou starting zone" used for Kitesurf activities,training and events will be terminated.
This decision is unfair to numerous fans gathering from all other Europe, observing a 20% attendance increase year after year.It denies the mayor's intentions, writing down his will to make of Hyere's bay "the Mecqua of Kitesurf"
If you consider the impact on the local economy, the improved safety of the starting zone now (for a few years, no serious injuries occurred) and with the help of fan themselves who raised the activity up to a disciplined sport level, it is obvious that the Kitesurf in Hyeres doesn't deserve such an end to, until then, a success story.
The starting zone "Le Merou" is approved by the FEDERATION FRANCAISE DE VOL LIBRE (FFVL) as it provides all the safety features, making it for all public attendance a safe place. With it diseappering, so will also the public safety, for Kitesurfers and summertime visitors.
